I have seen photos of this arch many times. Snownymph is sitting on top of it on webshots. Been around the Alabama Hills many times, but have failed to locate a trail to it. I must be completely blind
Does anyone have a trail map or some directions on how to get there. Is it a 2 mile or longer hike?
Thank you for any help
Inge

I had a hard time finding it too. Try the Whitney visitor / ranger station, they use to have a map, other wise here’s directions:
Heading up the Mt Whitney road, turn right on the Movie Land road until it ends in a “T”, turn right and go up the dirt road a bit until you come to a large pullout on your left. Park there and you’ll be looking sort of north. You’ll see a large rock formation with a pointy thing on it, “ The Thumb”. Look for the trail from the parking area and follow it towards the “Thumb”, less than a quarter of a mile. Here’s a picture of the arch with the thumb in the center.
The Chamber of Commerce office in the middle of town also has flyers with directions to the main points of interest including the arch and various movie sites.
Doug's description is perfect if you already know the area.
