What happened to Jefferson?

The Wilderness State. The topic seemed to have disappeared from the local news some years back now. I never heard what happened. Die from lack of support from the southern politicians? Too complicated to get the inner workings to work? Seemed like a good idea, to be out on our own, away from LA and SF.

Yes. I had heard though, that it would include more of the Sierra Nevada counties. The former County Supervisor out of Chico, can't recall his name and maybe Wally Herger too were talking about it.

Well I guess I'm not too surprised. Given the nature of the times, maybe there is an urge to see this dream re-emerge. Wouldn't that be interesting? I just hope it wouldn't be as rigid and reactionary as the last time. Remember "Ecotopia"?

Driving I-5 North, I try to catch Jefferson radio; I always enjoy hearing the free spirit and independence it conveys. A little friendly anarchy in the global system of double-speak is refreshing!

It still pops up in the local newspapers now and again. It's in the same category as the Conch Republic in the Florida Keys and the State of Superior from the U.P. of Michigan.

I am still trying to get the State of Nautaqua going, the NE corner of CA and NW Nevada. Or if barring that, Lassen Country secede from CA and join NV, like it once was.

For the other readers here, the origin began with the first settlers of the Honey Lake Valley. The soil was so fertile and the climate so ideal it was said one could easily make a living farming or ranching without working hard.

Yeah, I'm partial to it.

Roughly the size of Connecticut, but with a population just under 34,000. And a third of those are long term guests at the government run bed-and-breakfasts. There's a lot of empty just a short drive from town.

The weird weather is always amusing. During the summer it is not uncommon for the humidity at 2AM to be lower than 2PM. It will snow in July and August, and have grass fires in January.

Are you referring to Susanville? Yes I know there are other possibilities, but I'm asking because of some positive personal experiences both my wife and I have in relation to that town. If its not too presumptive, we feel like honorary "neversweats" as a result. We liked the "empty," too.
