NorCal Ruck - backpacking education event. Mar 2nd

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

NorCal Ruck - backpacking education event. Mar 2nd

Post by Flamingo »

Hi Everyone,
fyi... the American Long Distance Hiking Association West (ALDHA-West) is organizing their annual NorCal Ruck event, on Sunday March 2nd, in El Cerrito, CA

In full disclosure, I'm helping to organize this. I think the ruck could be useful to lots of people here on HST. It's a one-day event focused on backpacking education, and getting prepared for the 2025 hiking season. There's talks on wilderness safety, navigation with apps, and trail-specific breakout groups to discuss the PCT, JMT, CDT, Tahoe Rim Trail, and other trails. The keynote speaker will talk about the Bigfoot Trail, which is a cool 360-mile route through the Klamath Mountains. Lunch is included. If you're in the Bay Area, this is a fun and low-key opportunity to meet your trail community.
