My apologies

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

My apologies

Fellow HST Members,

I have not been around as much or reported on things as vigilantly as usual. My 95-year-old father had a botched procedure last April, which led to a cascade of hospitalization and, unfortunately, his death in early August. I am angry that he died because of someone's mistake, but I hope to return to my usual self in a few weeks. Thank you for your understanding.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

We've lost a friend, and a brother and sister in law within the previous two years, all well before their time, to medical mistakes. It can be very "dismaying". Hug those you love, the contact is therapeutic for us primates. You focus on getting your bearings back, we can wait.

So sorry for your loss. There's really nothing to apologize for. All of us have things that happen in our families that take us outside our suppposed duties. Here's hoping you get a great trip in the high country to provide solace in your grief.

Sorry to hear about your loss and I can relate to the medical mistakes part. I lost my dad over 20 years ago, but all of us (my bro, mom, Judy) felt that there were omissions, misdiagnoses, and wrong turns in his treatment that put him in a terminal situation.

Obviously no need to apologize because it goes without saying that your priorities were where they should be.

At the risk of sounding flippant, if your dad made it to 95 without getting killed by a physician, he was lucky. As a retired med school faculty member, I should know. And they should know better. But lots don't. Sorry, and hugs from Joy & me. Cameron
