I saw this etching on a large boulder as we left Roads End and wonder what it is. "W.B-> 1912".
I don't have the exact location, but it was about this: 36.78698, -118.56385.
We took the southern trail out of Roads End - it was along there.
I'm imagining it means "Western Boundary" of the park?
Thanks,
Marnie

Kings Canyon was officially designated in 1940, so it is difficult to guess what western boundary there was in 1912.

Maybe email Kings Canyon rangers and see if they know? Hard to tell from the pic how old the etching was.
A lot of references in a google search but none make sense for the Sierra.
