Water North of Big Sam--Emigrant

Post by MountainMinstrel »

Planning a trip in upper Emigrant out of Leavitt Lake. I will be leaving the trail from Emigrant Meadows Lake and was hoping that the small lakes north of Big Sam would still hold water. leaving 7-28.

Before you reach Big Sam you will drop down close to the headwaters of Kennedy Creek and Kennedy Lake. You can get water there before going over Big Sam. Once you come down from Big Sam you will likely find flowing springs close to the trail. High Emigrant Lake will definitely have water.

Be ready for some weather over Big Sam.

We were there a few days ago and BillyBobBurro's water recommendations are good. It was quite windy for our whole trip, but that's all the weather we got. Also, the Tamarack fire isn't too far away so you might check the smoke forecast. If it's clear the view from Big Sam is quite nice.
