I was looking to camp at Green Lake (Inyo NF) to acclimate the day before going up to Vagabond and Cloudripper Peaks. I had assumed I would need the Baker and Green Lakes Inyo wildnerness permit but, when I go to select a camp location, Green Lake isn't an option. I've sinced noticed that Green Lake, unlike Baker Lake, is not in John Muir Wildnerness but, just outside of it.
For anyone familiar with this area, is overnight camping allowed at Green Lake, if so, do I need a permit? If I need a permit, which one if not Baker and Green Lakes?

That's a good question about overnight camping at Green Lake, I only go up there for a day hike to fish for good rainbows in the lake. I would call Inyo National Forest Ranger Station in Bishop and ask them.

From the Inyo National Forest website:
Wilderness permits are required for overnight trips into the John Muir Wilderness. Permits are issued at Inyo National Forest visitor centers. Get a campfire permit for camping at Green or Brown Lakes instead of a wilderness permit.
(the trailhead is called Baker Lake,..)

BTW, you can get a campfire permit at any CalFire station, or online from the CDF.

"On this proud and beautiful mountain we have lived hours of fraternal, warm and exalting nobility. Here for a few days we have ceased to be slaves and have really been men. It is hard to return to servitude."
