Desolation Westside permits - location change Oct 15 2018

Just a heads up the El Dorado National Forest has stopped issuing Desolation Wilderness permits from the Highway 50 ranger station near Fresh Pond. Neither the website nor the highway signage had been updated as of last week.

The new permit location for westside trailheads is about 10 miles west, at the Placerville Ranger Station at 4260 8 Mile road, off of exit 54 on Highway 50.

You may not need this info. Desolation is also the only place I know of that lets you reserve your permit, and print it at home. No ranger station visit needed!
