The USFS is slowing posting trail data on its public-facing GIS server. I just noticed that data for the Eldorado National Forest is now on that server. This is the first national forest in CA to have this kind of trail data available for the public.
Below is a link that starts Gmap4 and shows an area centered on the Eldorado NF. If you click on a trail then you will see a popup with all the attribute data the GIS server has for the thing that you clicked.
To see the map legend and get other tips for using the map, please click “About this map” in the upper left corner.
To see the index map showing other NFs where trail data has been posted to the fed’s GIS server, turn on the layer “USFS_trail_overview”.

Re: GIS trail data from the USFS
Good. It's annoyed me over the years how allot of trails the forest service does not really know the exact miles or location but they are just approximations. And even after people would summit highly accurate GPS data of the whole trail, the type that is accurate down to the inch they wouldn't accept it.
