I'm headed to New York and I'm trying to find some 5 night backpacking ( not necessarily peak bagging ) in the Adirondacks or Catskills; does any know a website where I can find trail reports and waypoints? Essentially the east coast version of HST!
Also any ideas on how I can get myself to the trailhead?!
Headed up Whitney on May 5th. The elevation on the east coast there doesn't quite compare...

This site has a listing of numerous resources: http://www.alpinezone.com/hiking/links/
Here are two more:

http://www.nynjtc.org/viewpoint
Often imitated, but never ever duplicated, there is only one HST!

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org
