Finally some photos from my hike! I'll be processing these for a couple months. Happy to post more here if there is interest. Here are some of my favorites so far...

Day 1, on the way up to Cloud's Rest. I really wanted an escalator here:

Not magic hour. Blue hour! 8 sec exposure about half-hour before sunrise:

I may have carried a 24oz. f/1.4 lens the whole 220 miles for this one shot. Was it worth it?


Bighorn Plateau was just astounding! Not nearly done with this area:

Very nice shots Charlie! I look forward to seeing more. As a photographer I can appreciate the amount of time that goes into not only capturing images, but in the digital age the time spent after the fact in post processing. I really like the Virginia in Pink shot on your site, talk about being in the right place at the right time..

Well, here's Virginia in Pink for Jake. I'm still futzing around with it. I like strong color but this one is pretty garish. I was just recalling how white the granite was from Virginia Lake to Silver Pass. Nowhere better to catch the light from a pink sunset.



Edit: jeez! After posting this I decided I didn't like it. Too violet and garish. Went back to photo and pulled saturation way, way down. Now I think I see the soft pink that I remember.

Wow, just wow. These are incredible shots. The Milky Way shot is fantastic, is that Fin Dome as the backdrop?

Yeah, that's Fin Dome from Dollar Lake. I did a lot of pre-trip planning with topo maps and astronomy sites, and browsing others' photos on Google images. That shot was pretty much planned right down to the foreground rock and grass.

So to answer your question, especially from one that didn't have to lug the 24 oz. Yes, yes it definitely was worth it! It is a wonderful capture.
