So far, I've liked some of the McDougall items. I don't eat meat; so they work good for me. I've used them car camping and like the packaging the come in for that, but I will repackage them for backpacking unless I'm just out on an overnight trip.

I have not bought them in bulk yet. I found them in the Vegan Market in Rancho Cucamonga.

Re: McDougall Dried Meals
I've seen some of these in my local Safeway. Kathy, since I haven't tried any yet, I'm curious as to which ones you like.

I've tried these so far:
Tomato Pine Nut Quinoa Salad Made With Organic Quinoa & Couscous
Curry Almond Brown & Wild Rice Salad
Soy Ginger Noodle
They are not gourmet meals, but they go down fine and should work for backpacking. If the weather cooperates, I'm going to pack some of the meals for a weekend backpacking this coming weekend.

Re: McDougall Dried Meals
Thanks, Kathy. I'm not into gourmet meals even when not backpacking (the price and the pretentiousness cause my wife and I to be wary). My backpacking meals are either home dehydrated creations, refried beans and tortillas with parmessan cheese, or Annie Chunk noodle meals with snow peas, dried tomatoes, or home dehydrated vegies. So the ones you mentioned sound interesting.
