Re: Mystery Spot
Very good my friend, you're up. Of note my tripod was somewhat north. The distinctive silhouette of those impressive peaks while one drives south on US395 is likely to register in one's mind. At frame mid left is of course Bloody Mountain with its snowy couloir backcountry skiers enjoy. On its shoulder poking over the top is Red Slate and at frame edge left, Laurel Mountain. This is a large treeless pumice plain thanks to Mono Craters of which there are several in that region. For most of each year those areas are of little interest to all but off road vehicle enthusiasts, particularly dirt bikes. However there is a narrow window when those areas hold some treasures that ought be of interest to photographers because of a short season usually late June to early July of striking wildflower carpets. Although my downsized image looks impressive it does not satisfy my work there because I had to compromise capture due to breezy conditions in somewhat harsh midday light. Thus may return in the future on a calmer day and likely disperse camp right out on that lonely plain where I can capture a mid morning frame.
