As we hiked up the pass we passed many people coming down. Some had experienced the first storm and they talked about collapsed tents and many inches of snow. They said that a search and rescue team who was looking for someone was urging all hikers to get off the trail because the next storm was probably going to be far worse than the weather forecast. So, we went to Matlock Lake, which was beautiful with the snow on the surrounding peaks, had a starry night and a beautiful sunny morning, and then hightailed it back to Bishop for burgers. We talked about having a couple of rainy days at Emigrant followed by three days around Hyatt and Pingree, but decided against it. On the way home to the SF bay area, Tioga Pass was closed so we had to go all the way up to Lake Tahoe to cross over. Oh well, 60 Lakes Basin will still be there next year and, more importantly, so will I.
