Markskor and I have decided not to do our planned 4 day e. Side trip due to actual and predicted rain and thunderstorms both during the day and night.

Is this because you believe it will be bad enough to the point where it is unsafe? Or more because it will just be wet and miserable? We have a trip planned and are currently assessing the situation.

Go one your trip, just be prepared for possible thunderstorms and hail, time your passes for earlier in the day. Old ranger is retired, so he has the luxury to reschedule starting dates, lucky him.Is this because you believe it will be bad enough to the point where it is unsafe? Or more because it will just be wet and miserable? We have a trip planned and are currently assessing the situation.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Mostly because wet and miserable. But the only campsites at our destination are on a ridge under the only trees in the area. There has been substantial lightning in the area and predictions are for even more over the next few days. The prospect of many hours in a tent just isn't 'appealing. Been there done that.
Dave the predictions have been 30% past few days and the pattern of the storms have been ok. But clouds and precip have significantly increased the last 24 hours in Mammoth and the forecast seems more threatening thru the weekend.

Good to know. Just wanted to make sure the veterans didn't see something in the forecast that I didn't. Have my pack in the car ready to go (fully loaded with rain gear and dry spare clothes). The real struggle will be waiting until the clock strikes 5!
