R03/R04 TR: Humphreys Basin - June 17-21-2015

Post by cefdc9 »

Here is my first trip report.

Exploration of the Humphreys Basin - June 17-21. Easy trip. 2 of us. Off-trail in the Humphreys Basin with side trips to lakes, and ridges (for the views). Almost no snow. The lower Humphreys Lake was partially frozen. From far away, it looked like that one of the lakes above Muriel lake was frozen. Weather: no cloud, warm for the elevation. Number of people seen in the Humphreys Basin (after the Piute Pass): a group camping at Mesa Lake (day 2), a group camping near the creek (day 3), 2 groups at Muriel Lake (day 4).

The best? Big wide area above tree line. Great for the views. Great for hiking off-trail.
Perhaps the only time I saw a place in the Sierras, that look a bit like the Alpine Tundra.
