Carrying Your DLSR

I wanted to see how most folks carry larger DLSR's.. I have tried a few different options (Sling mounted via S clip to shoulder strap, and just putting it in the pack) and wasn't happy with either. Has anyone used a chest pack?


I am using a D800 and 16-35 Lens, all in all about 4 pounds worth.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I just started recently using a Peak Design Capture Pro Clip with my Nikon D810 and 14-24mm lense. I have not had a chance to take it on a backpacking trip yet, but it has carried really well on my day hikes.

I didn't look at the other threads but putting the chest strap on your backpack through the belt loops on your DSLR case is surprisingly comfortable and provides very east access. The tripod is a different story...

I always carry my dSLR with me these days and I really like the Lowepro Toploader Pro 65 AW for doing so:

I've day hiked ~25 miles wearing that thing and it never really bothered me much.

I've transitioned to a Sony NEX for most hikes, but I use a Peak Design Camera Clip most of the time:

I just picked up a Peak Design clip (the Action Cam kit so I can use it with my GoPro or Canon SL1) and like it a lot. Their Clutch wrist strap is sweet too.
