Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.
This last weekend was an important one for us, because when we entered the park through the Big Oak Flat entrance station, I was able to show his ID and purchase a Senior Pass for $10.
According to the USGS store that sells them:
A Senior Pass is a $10.00 lifetime pass that provides access to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies, with up to 100% of the proceeds being used to improve and enhance visitor recreation services.
It allows me (and anyone with me) to enter any National Park in the USA for free. Plus it qualifies me for discounts on other costs like campground fees. Very cool.

Last year, hanging out in Tuolumne, decided to do a 3-day Saddlebag - McCabe trip. As there is no bus - had to hitch-hike back to TM.
Standing in front of TPR, instead of "thumbing", I just pulled out/used my senior pass as a lure, and got a ride immediately, saving my driver the $20 entrance fee.
I have also printed "Have Senior Pass" on hitch-hiking signs used going into Yosemite from other routes too...(Always use a destination sign when hitching Sierra with a backpack)...have gotten several rides just because of it.
