2014 Reliable Water Sources / Long Dry Sections

There's no water at Rowell Meadow. We went over to Belle Canyon on Labor Day weekend and there is a very small unpleasant muddy puddle on the way up from Rowell Meadow to the pass. That's all until you get to the Seville/Ranger/Lost Lake junction at the bottom of Belle Canyon, where Sugarloaf Creek is flowing with a very modest amount of water. Nothing higher up until you get to Seville though. We didn't go to JO so can't help you there.

I decided to take a reconnoissance trip before our planned backpacking trip, and I actually found one stream in the middle of Rowell Meadow itself, towards the Eastern side. It supplied plenty of water for our group during the actual trip.

Even though they are a month old, I think some may still find this information helpful. It is for the Golden Trout Wilderness on the Sequoia National Forest side.

Soda Spring Creek – Not flowing, standing water
Tamarack Creek – Barely any flow as of late August
Deep Creek – Not flowing, dry
Clicks Creek – Barely flowing
Alpine Creek near Parole Cabin – Slowly flowing
Fish Creek – Not flowing, standing water
Little Kern River – Low but flowing

Lion Meadow area – Not flowing, standing water
Grey Meadow – No water
Trout Meadow – No Water

Maggie Lakes – Has water, but water level is low
