Hi all,
I just found out the shuttles stop during the week that we're going to be hiking the JMT from Yosemite to Red's Meadow. The guy I talked to at the transportation authority said its a 7-mile walk uphill from Red's Meadow to the adventure center. Anyone have suggestions for how to avoid that after a week of walking?
Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Call a cab, take it to the lodge from where you can take YARTS back to Yosemite,
this is your only alternative to leaving a car at Agnew, unless someone here on HST
living in Mammoth can give you ride.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Stoner,
When are you coming out? How many people?
There is a possibility I could be persuaded to drive down to Reds and give you a lift...maybe even a shower and a place to crash on my couch overnight - Mammoth...all depends on when. I'm thinking that it will run you the cost of a tri-tip (or leg-o-lamb) from the local Von's...which I will gladly cook/share, with all fixens.
or?

On the outside chance this didn't occur to you . . .
. . . if the shuttle stops service during your hike but not before you start your hike, then park your car down at Red's Meadow. Catch the shuttle, transfer to Yarts, and ride to the beginning of your trip. I'd rather ride public transportation when I'm not stinky anyway.

getting to Tuolumne Meadows to Mammoth
My friend and I are going to park our van in Tuolumne Meadows on Saturday, 13 September,
and take the 6:50 pm YART up to Mammoth. We plan to sleep at a cheap motel (Motel 6?) that
night, pick up our permits at the Visitor Center the next morning, Sunday, and then take
a taxi with our packs to Red's Meadow.
From Red's, we'll head South toward Tuolumne Meadows. We're going to take our time.
Our exit date at TM is 22 September, when we'll pick up our van and head back down
toward San Francisco (actually, we're headed to our homes in Sonoma County).
If anyone has anyone observations or suggestions, please let us know. (Our van
isn't huge, but if anything here fits with you, let us know.)

If you head south from Red's Meadow then you had better allow a lot of time to reach Tuolumne Meadows.
