Great report! That's one of my favorite loops, although I do it C. Grove to East lake first day and agree with the ranger's advice to skip Deerhorn Saddle. Your enthusiasm is well placed! For someone with no Sierra experience you chose a marvelous route.

It's a lot of fun to read this and follow your story and look at the photos. I'm amazed you found the strength to do this hike with the giardia and lack of nourishment some days. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
