Re: SIERRA INSPIRATION PHOTOTHON!
The JMT is a beautiful trail certainly worth doing but it's covered with people from end to end. I have seen 30 people in a couple hours on it. Almost every place to camp is heavily used. Normally If you want to have a fire you need to go far and wide since everything is picked clean.

That's what I wanted to ask. Out there you still have to use the campsites? Or can you pick a random spot in the woods?

Thanks Rogue! Those previous few posts really need to be moved off of this thread!

over a dozen times. Lost count somewhere in the mid nineties.InsaneBoost wrote:Has anyone here done the entire thing? Definitely seems like something I need to put on my bucket list.
Here's a shot from 1988, first time out and first time at Wanda Lake below Muir Pass

And 23 years later with my kids, about the same place...

last year again, this time just with my son

we're actually thinking about going again this summer, although we rarely go the actual JMT route. After so many hikes, you find some alternate routes you eventually adopt as "your JMT" route. This year, if we go, we'll probably spend more than half the distance on route other than the official JMT.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

LOVING those reflections!
Went to Hite Cove on Sunday to check out the wildflower fields and abandoned mine town, or letover stuff. Either way, got sick as crap on the way up (guess I should have known better than to not eat breakfast/hydrate before hiking).
Anyways captured this image which I thought came out rather nice
