Carbon Dioxide Discharge from Mammoth Mountain

Over 20 years ago I read in the Reno newspaper where there was a high level of CO2 coming up
out of the ground near Mammoth Mountain and it was killing trees in the area. What has the activity been like recently? Any changes - better or worse?

Horseshoe Lake has CO2 warning signs posted...still.
All the trees at lake level are dead...eerie.

It's to be expected in an active, relatively young geologically area. Remember as with bears they were there before us; we encroach upon their territory. Makes me wonder. It's been relatively quiet geologically for some time. The Round Valley Caldera dome has been bulging in the resent past.(10 yrs) All those pressures have to go somewhere. Pressures on fault lines need relief from time to time.

IIRC a CO2 release often occurs shortly before an eruption.

Perhaps things are starting to get interesting...

If that's the case then the needles must have been off the scale when Mike and Mark

I was there back in 2006? that three ski patrol from mammoth died. I could be wrong, but I think they found a hole in the snow and they were fencing it off and one fell in and the others went to help and then perished too. I've known about Horseshoe Lake area and the gasses back in the 80's. I try to stay away from that area now.
