Tom's report on the Brewer party got me excited about cultural history in the Sierra back country. I thought maybe some of you would enjoy this site I stumbled onto.
These are Basque Shepard carvings from 20 years after Brewer, 130 years old this year!

Wow John those are very faint, thanks for posting. I've seen lots in the forgotten nooks and crannies of the Ebbetts and Sonora Pass areas, especially near and east of the crest. After a big trip, nothing beats a dinner at JT Basque place in Garderville, they have some racy examples in display in the men's room as I recall....
