So.. Im a bit flummoxed. I busted my foot up pretty bad and have to cancel my planned backpacking trips for this summer owing to spending the next 5 weeks off my feet and then 5 more in a walking cast.
I'm dying to spend some time up in the mountains, but Im only really familiar with areas that are hike in only...
Do any of you have suggestions for a good spot to relax by a river or lake that are accessible by car? I'm talking about away from it all type places. I have a capable four wheel drive vehicle.
I'm thinking alonh the lines of coyote flat, monache meadows... But beyond those two, I don't really know where to go car camping in the Sierras
Thanks!

Leavitt Lake may suit your purpose. You need a high clearance 4x4 to get there.

You certainly do! The ranger we talked to said that he bottomed out twice in his 4WD SUV...
Other spots that are nice, and maybe easier on your vehicle include Highland Lakes off Highway 4--as well as Mosquito Lake (don't be misled by the name)
Woods Lake out of Carson Pass, or Blue Lakes or Silver Lakes on the East side...
