Trip report for Courtright Reservoir to Guest Lake (34 miles)
June 7–9, 2013
Nick and Lori
Day 1: Courtright Reservoir to North Fork Kings River (10 miles)
Day 2: North Fork Kings River to Guest Lake to Big Maxson meadow (10 miles)
Day 3: Big Maxson Meadow to Courtright Reservoir (14 miles)
As usual, the best laid plans….
This trip was part of a MeetUp. By the time the trip was ready to go, only the trip leader and myself were still able and willing to go.
The plan had been to leave from Courtright to head up over Blackcap Pass via Guest Lake and loop back by way of Portal and Honeymoon Lakes. However, due to various circumstances, not the least of which was that there were more mosquitoes than I have ever encountered before--especially up at Guest Lake, we shortened the trip.

Thanks for the TR Nsmeier and pretty pictures. To bad about the mosquitoes,
AmostThere reported that the mosquitoes were really bad in that area also.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

It's too bad that you weren't able to do your planned itinerary. That's a beautiful area and one of my favorite trips was over Blackcap Pass and around to Portal Lake and out in a big loop. We did it in 9 days, though, by way of Disappointment Lake, Lucifer's Saddle, Bench Canyon, and so forth. Thanks for posting the photos. The little dog looks like a trooper.

We did a similar trip from Courtwright up to Devil's Punchbowl over 4th of July weekend 2009---and ran into the worse mosquitoes we've seen...
Here's a shot of my lovely bride modelling the latest in high fashion:

We ended up eating dinner in the tent...and watching the outside mesh become almost opaque from the number of mosquitoes outside.

I recognize that fashionable head gear. I even have an attractive jacket to match somewhere.
