Yosemite - Sunrise creek dry

Just a heads up. I took some friends backpacking through Yosemite this weekend since they had never been there. Was planning on staying at Sunrise Creek as a base for Half Dome. On the way over Vogelsang Pass, I spoke with a ranger that Informed me that that Sun Rise Creek was dry and I would need to haul water. Decided to head up to Washburn lake instead. Upon crossing Sun Rise Creek in Echo Valley, it was bone dry.
