I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Leave the pack and your friend at North Lake, easier for one person to get a ride.
Would also make a sign with "North Lake" on it.

Always seemed easier for a one to hitchhike with a backpack - (shows you are a real backpacker and IMHO a necessary prop)
and always a sign saying where you are going...
IE, Spelling $outh lake with a dollar sign ($= S) helps too.
Good one Markskor though the $ sign won't work too great for the N in North Lake.
