R03 TR: Lamarck Lakes July 2011

Post by scottg1178 »

In July of 2011 I took a nice little day hike with my family up to the Lamarck Lakes which is out of the North Lake Basin near Bishop. There is no parking at the trail head but you can park at the Bishop Pack station which is about a half mile away. From the parking lot to the end of the trail and back is around 6.0 miles. The elevation gain going up is around 1,400 feet. The trail is mostly moderate but there are two strenuous sections with some switchbacks. There was some snow here and there but nothing that had to be hiked through. There was only one stream crossing which wasn't easy with two kids but manageable non the less.

Hiking with two kids (2 and 5 years old) added some time and character to the trip. We set up shop at the Lower Lamarck Lake which is at 10,662 feet. The lake was Beautiful and the kids had a great time fishing. We caught about 6 fish overall, all of which were brooks and bows. After a couple hours of fishing, relaxing and taking some pictures we headed back down the Mountain.

It must have been a fun trek with the boys.
