Plan A
In December with typical La Nina weather expected I planned a liesurely 21/2 to 3 week trip to hit the low sierra and foothills with planned trips to Rancheria Falls, Hite Cove and Redwood canyon plus whatever else struck my fancy.
Plan B
Atypical weather intervened and almost same trip postponed until May.
Plan C- Called on to do grandpa duty in Boise which cuts 5 days off what would have been 21/2 weeks.
Targets, K--- Lake on east side Sierra, Rancheria Falls, Redwood Canyon, visit (mooch off of) old friends. Bring backcountry skis just in Case.
Plan D. drop K--- Lake trip due to predicted snow up to 4" in spot weather report.
Execution of first part of plan D. Involved Skiing 3/4 way up Castle Peak near Donner Summit. Briefly meeting Kathy for belated Anniversary Dinner in Truckee then on Monday the 16th skiing along Red Lake near Carson Pass on way to gdurkee's house.
To be continued in backpacking forum.

Re: California Odyssey part I
Very nice pics Mike. Thanks for sharing them!! I especially like the one with the ski areas in the background. The slopes that caught my eye were the ones beyond the Boring Mogul (otherwise known as Boreal Ridge). Mt Disney and Mt Lincoln of Sugar Bowl. Brought back memories. I worked at Sugar Bowl in 82/83 and again in 83/84. The 82/83 winter is still one of the heaviest snowfall winters on record and I lived in Serene Lakes near Soda Springs. There was still 17 feet of snow on the ground on May 1st when the resort closed. We went to Mammoth and skied until late July beofre poverty forced us down to the flat lands to make some money for the next season. Oh to be young eh???
I do have one question.
