Grandpa takes the grandkids
Last summer I took my two oldest grandkids on a 2 night trip to Green Lakes in the 3 Sisters Wilderness west of Bend. It was a perfect trip for Sequoia and Hunter-4.2 miles and 1,000 feet of vertical. Green Lakes is the most popular destination in the Wilderness and serves as a base for some hiking to the top of the South Sister. Each kid carried about 15 lbs (about 20% of their weight) and grandpa carried 43 lbs or 27% of his weight. Next time I think we will carry the same proportions as I couldn't keep up with them! They are both active in sports and are in incredible shape. It was amazing--no whining (except from grandpa).

Even with slow fishing a great time was had by all. At Christmas time after taking my granddaughter cross country skiing, she told her mom, "After backpacking my favorite sport is skiing." How good does it get?Mike

So cute! They really seem to be loving it. Great that you can get them interested in the wilderness so young.

Very cool OR!
Thanks for the Green Lake shots, I have only heard nice things about the
Sister's area.
Great to see the kids enjoying themselves in such a beautiful environment.
One of my only regrets in life is that we decided not to have kids, oh well.
So which one will be working for NPS?

Damn, those Oregonian elephants must be huge, to have such big heads. Wish my grandkids were closer.... Sigh.
