I just did a 4 day backpack on Catalina Island (just off the coast of LA).
It was starting to green up from all the rain (although it will be really nice in a couple of weeks):
The view from some of the ridges was like a poor man's Hawaii:
As was this beach campground:
And the cove it was in:
There was a beautiful sunset on New Year's day:
And wildlife you don't see in the Sierra:
And views of snow-capped mountains on the mainland:

The beach campground shot really does look like it could have been taken in Hawaii.
