You mean Horsetail Falls, Fire Falls was the burning embers being pushed over
Glacier Point back in the 70's.
Thanks for the photo.
It is hard to get the right conditions, bright skies give a lack of red, and with extremely
cloudy conditions there is no glow, plus there are crowds of photographers in the most
popular spots making the whole experience not really worth the hassle, at least for me.
How unique of a shot can you get with a dozen or two photographers taking the same
shot from the same spot every day for 10 days.
i guess you'd call it the Firefall off of Horsetail Fall. as opposed to the man-made Firefall from Glacier Point up until 1968-ish. i understand you're feeling mav. but i can tell you the guy standing next to me whose batteries died just as it showed up for 8 minutes would have liked to have a version he took himself.
Such an amazing phenomena, and it seems like a great year to witness it (and even better doing so on assignment!). I agree with Mav 's thoughts about crowded spots such as this, but sometimes find myself migrating to them just to see if I can think outside the box for a unique photo. Thanks for posting.
I went up there Thursday (2-18-10). I'll post my photo on a new thread....
Mav, I saw too different photos and two different locations, same evening. One from Southside and the other from Northside. Southside view had the better "experience" that evening.
