Other hiking forums??
Campers:
Some of you may remember that when we get a search, either Jim or I will post here asking if anyone's got information we can use. I was talking to Yosemite SAR today and we were thinking about coming up with a resource list of outdoor forums to use when trying to get information on missing hikers or conditions.
What are some good semi high traffic Forums for the area between, say, Tahoe and the southern Sierra? I've got this forum, of course; and the Whitney Store & Whitney Hiker's Association.
What else?
The idea might be for SAR people to post question on whether anyone's seen an overdue hiker; whether they were in the same area at the same time; or if they were there and had photos so we could get an idea of conditions.
Maybe also any blogs. I'm aware of postholer -- is that just for PCT hikers? Any others??
Anyway, appreciate any suggestions. Maybe give the name of the forum, the link, and a couple of lines about their main interest & geographic area.
Thanks!
George

George,
As you may be aware, the California sub-forum on SummitPost is very active. While it covers all of California, most info relates to the aspects of the Sierra you describe.

The Yosemite backpacking forum:
http://www.yosemite.ca.us/forum/viewforum.php?f=7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And I also like this one, which is more than just the Sierra, but seems to be mainly West Coast:

Check our our website: http://www.backpackthesierra.com/
Or just read a good mystery novel set in the Sierra; https://www.amazon.com/Danger-Falling-R ... 0984884963

Re: Other hiking forums??
Some forums that I'm familiar with have already been mentioned. There are other smaller and less active forums out there
Rock Creek Lake message board: http://www.rockcreeklake.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mammoth Mountain forum: http://forums.mammothmountain.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There are also Yahoo mailing lists - not my personal favorite method when it comes to interacting with folks online, but another avenue to consider
SEKI List: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sequoiakingscanyonhikers/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
High Sierra: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/californiashighsierra" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Man, I really need to update that page (lots of broken links)...and for that matter, the entire site.

Re: Other hiking forums??
A delayed thanks for the replies. I'm putting together a resource book for SARs and these will be really helpful.
Thanks!
