Break-ins, west side of Lake Tahoe
On the news a night or two ago out of Reno. Around the Bayview, Eagle Falls trailheads, some vehicles have been broken into. Credit cards and the usual taken. Take the beater or take what you can on your trips and hide the rest in the trunk. Of course, those areas get hit hard by tourists, so they may not be able to bring their belongings if visiting the country.
Piece of cake.

That sucks.
And you figure that Eagle Falls is probably monitored far better than almost anything else on the Tahoe West Side.

Always hate to hear about such reports. However Tahoe trailheads have had such problems for many years because of some of the low lifes that live there and types of tourists it attracts. We just packed in Desolation 3 nights while parking our beater vehicles at the Bayview trailhead. Note there is a sizeable campground right at the trailhead. A rangers vehicle was parked near us also.

I saw an online crime report some months back, showing the areas for break-ins on a map of the Lake. All of the areas, as expected, were those heavy traffic areas. If I can find it again I'll repost it. There are regular break-ins at places like Spooner Lake and Vikingsholm areas...
