The Placer County Sheriff’s Mountain Rescue Team is currently recruiting new volunteer members.
The team meets in, and operates from Auburn. Team members are men and women over the age of 21 who have a desire to be part of a highly trained Search and Rescue organization. Prior search and rescue experience is not required, as all members must undergo an extensive and comprehensive training program – at no expense to the member.
Members must be physically fit, without back, joint or other medical problems that would limit their participation in extended operations in rugged backcountry terrain.
All applicants will undergo a thorough background check, and must have a clean police record. An applicant must have a valid California Driver’s License, a telephone and should have access to the Internet, including e-mail.
The Placer County Mountain Rescue Team responds to any type of SAR calls from the Sheriff’s department, ranging from an urban environment in western Placer County to the high Sierra in eastern Placer County.
Each person joining the team will be provided extensive training in all necessary rescue skills, including high-angle rope rescue, helicopter operations, wilderness survival, man tracking, land navigation, radio communications, emergency medicine, winter rescue operations, avalanche awareness, rock climbing and many others.
The Placer County Mountain Rescue Team meets monthly, on the fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m., at the Sheriff’s facility located at the Auburn Justice Center on Richardson Drive in Auburn.
For membership information, visit the Web site at http://www.pcsomrt.org, or contact the team leader at jglabas@surewest.net.
