Hi all! So happy to be joining this community of fellow adventurers. Excited to read trip reports and post some of my own in the future. I've been backpacking for over a decade now, and have done a fair amount in the Sierras. I did the JMT back in June of 2022 and fell madly in love. I'd love to become more experienced in XC hiking.

Hi aliceinwonderland,

Welcome to HST, the other Wonderland!😊

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Ok, I have been lurking for years but want to start contributing to a community I have benefited from immensely. I'm Alex out of Long Beach, CA. I first completed the HST with a memorable short-cut over pants pass into KB, and summited Whitney when I was 16 with the scouts and now, at 50, I keep returning to that area for different hiking adventures every other year (after about a 20 year hiatus). I'm typically a solo hiker, not by choice but, surprisingly, most of the physical therapists I work with wont consider back country hiking, and my wife doesn't stray that far from a Starbucks :D . I'm planning a week get away this late summer for a return to the Kaweah basin...I try to go every other year. Big fan of Kim Stanly Robinson and loved "High Sierra: A love story". Look forward to trip reporting and contributing...and thanks to the community for all of the invaluable help over the years. =D>

Hi Alex,

Welcome to HST! We never tire of TRs with photos to KB, especially with different perspectives.

First time in the Sierras after about 25 years. Live in Redmond, WA, just outside of Seattle. Done lots of backpacking in the Cascades, Wind Rivers, Sawtooths and Beartooths. Now it is time to return to the Sierras.

Hey, all! My name is Jeremy! I'm a 42yo dude from LA looking to connect with other local hikers and backpackers. Love getting out into nature, but love it more when I'm doing it with cool people!

My name is Ted. I'm a working pastor in San Diego. I'm 69 years old and have been backpacking in the Sierras, on both sides of the range, since I was a Boy Scout. I'm an avid fly fisherman -- these days I backpack in order to fly fish in the high country. I'm almost exclusively backpacking the Eastern Sierra now anywhere between Bishop and Bridgeport. It's God's country and I have some of my best times up there. Looking forward to seeing you on the trail.
Best,
PastorTed

Welcome PastorTed. I, too, have had a few "mountain top" experiences while in the Sierra. That's one of the reasons I love it so much.
