Hello Frozen, what do they say-- "Imitation is the highest form of flattery?" I am staring at your wonderfuly explicit Google Earth map, and planning to trot right along this clever route of yours. I think that I will love those first few stark days-- Moose Lake on day one is a great inspiration. I think that when I finally make it to Horn Col it will fast become one of my favorite passes. Your current fine photos from up there, and a few earlier ones taken by maiathebee, are stunning images that I want to put my real eyes on. From up there you speculate that you seeing all the way to the Palisade Crest. I see the sightly northern, big North Palisade group, from Mt. Sill to Agassiz. The tan colored group of mountains even farther to thenorth escape me.

Thanks a lot for putting this already great TR together Frozen; like Daisy, we are looking forward to pouring through your entire report on your website. Many cheers, Ian.

i imagine someone of your persuasion might 'cut the corner' and use the xc route to and from josephine lake. looks steep and laborious on maps and descriptions, especially after dealing with cloud, so we stuck with the trail.

Hey Frozen, you're right, I did once head up and over that Glacier Ridge via Josephine Lake. It was both a challenging, and lovely way to go! Here's a link of that trip: viewtopic.php?t=18984

I think that WD makes a great point about how the alpine routes are much more scenic with snow. Here are a few pics from the same dry ridge you guys crossed by Coppermine Peak:

Looking toward your Horn Col. I went over Elizabeth instead.

Where am I?! This is looking over to the Kaweah Peaks... I must be up on the ridge that leads to Lion Lake Pass.

This last one is looking east from Elizabeth Pass.
I think it is true that the high stark rocky land looks very nice with a bit of snow on it. This scant 4-6" didn't slow me down much, as I had the luck with windless sunny days, unlike the wild winds you guys experienced. Thanks again frozen, for the great route you have offered up.

Excellent photos. Been 52 years, maybe time for you to take a break from them, but long past time I return to the Tablelands.
