Tioga Road Trailheads wilderness permits for 2025

Post by LMBSGV »

I wrote the Yosemite Wilderness Office concerning the fact that Tiogra Road tralheads are not appearing on receation.gov for the last week in May and early June. I received the following reply:
That is a great question and it is a change from past years. The Tioga Road trailheads will be available beginning on entry dates for June 19th. If Tioga Road opens before June 19th those reservations will be available when the announcement of Tioga Road opening is made. This change was made to prevent reservations being made for when the road had not yet opened. People holding these reservations either had to switch to limited availability for lower elevation trailheads or cancel their reservations. Let us know if you have any further questions.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Thanks for the information.

I lost of the Lottery trying to get Rafferty or Cathedral for the days around June 19th/20th.

It's pretty inconvenient now with what they're saying. The road will almost surely be open by late June, but I guess I have to just follow along with road announcements and hope to be online at 7am the day they decide to go live?

First world problem, I know, but that's a holiday (Juneteenth) so I have friend coming in from out of town. Our tentative itinerary was to drive to the valley and stay at backpackers camp and enjoy the valley for a half day, then the next day drive (or shuttle bus) up to either Rafferty or Cathedral Trailheads then backpack in and spend a night somewhere along Sunrise Creek, wake up early and do Half Dome cable (I know it's crowded and all that), then back to the Valley and back to car.

I guess I have two more chance to get permits...when the Tioga Road officially opens and again the week before when the other 40% of permits are available.
