The Bear Fire was reported at 2 p.m. on September 2, 2024 off Bear Valley Rd. on the Tahoe National Forest, south of the community of Sierra Brooks in Sierra County. Tahoe National Forest, Cal Fire and Sierra County Sheriff’s Office are in unified command. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Does anyone have good intel on current smoke conditions along high Sierra trail? Is smoke settling in Kern river gorge?

SEKI NP has been releasing near daily smoke impact videos on their youtube and social media.

just back from pine creek > bear lakes basin > french canyon/elba lake, 9/20-23 and we had some of the most crystal clear air i've seen in recent late septembers. starting the day after the snow storm obviously helped!
