Yosemite Mono Mdw Red Pk Pass Loop

Post by vilnukoy »

For next year I am looking to finally do the Red Pk Pass Loop starting at Mono Mdw. But instead coming back via Merced Lake/LYV I was hoping to hit Fernandez and Post Pk Pass and maybe Lillian Lk.

So now my question: Which direction would be easier? Going up Red Pk Pass first or the other direction with Fernandez Pass first? Also, what are great camping options along the way?

I did Mono Meadows over Buena Vista Pass and then Fernandez and Post Peak Pass and out through LYV in early June and there was quite a bit of snow and less distinct trails in the Ansel. If there is snow, Red Peak and Post Peak probably go better from the South so you get one from each direction. Without snow I don’t see much difference. If you do continue down the Merced be aware that the bridge is out where the Lyell Fork enters. that was a surprise!
