Feather Pass Conditions

Post by DaveDill »

Hi All,
I'm planning to do a loop through Bear Lakes entering over Feather Pass and exiting Dancing Bear in early Sept. Ive been through Bear Lakes several times but this will be a first for Feather Pass. I was not planning on bringing any traction devices but wondering if there may be any residual snowfields that could pose an issue. Appreciate any conditions reports/thoughts. Thanks!

I'm planning on going over it next week. Not much snow left from what I see in the latest Sentinel sat photo. Don't think you'll need anything for feather. That's an old hike track of mine in red. You should be able to find dry ground. Enjoy!

I went over Feather July 11. No traction needed. The snowfield that was there at the time could be skirted on either side.

I went over Feather Pass on July 30th. No need for any traction - the snow was soft enough by noon that we could even traverse large sections of it without any traction devices. And like the previous commenter said, you can bypass it on either side. You should be good.
