Chiquito Trailhead Road Conditions

Post by Spiff »

I am planning to leave on a backpacking trip Wednesday 7/24/24 starting at the Chiquito Pass Trailhead. Does anyone have recent information on the road conditions? I would like to drive my Prius V to the trailhead, but the ranger at Bass Lake recommends a vehicle with higher clearance. I drove the Prius to Jackass Lakes Trailhead in 2021, but maybe things are worse now? Thanks for any information you have.

i just saw a post on facebook yesterday about the lower chiquito trailhead:

"The paved Beasore Road to the Lower Chiquito Trailhead is in very good shape, and the last two miles of dirt road are ok as well for most cars. Drive to trailhead took about one hour from Bass Lake. Note: There is also an Upper Chiquito Pass Trailhead (aka Quartz Mountain Trailhead) which is two miles shorter than the lower trail, but features two hours of nasty dirt road driving from Bass Lake. I decided that one extra hour of hiking is better than one extra hour of bad dirt road driving, so I took the lower trailhead."
