2024 HST Meetup

A forum to initiate member meet-up. Looking for a hiking/climbing/fishing/skiing/etc. partner, or are you planning a trip where you wouldn't mind having some company? Last minute invites can be just as fun as a well-planned group trip (sometimes even better) so don't be shy! And be sure to post a trip report to the appropriate forum when you get back.

Hi cgunderson,

Love the Sierra said they had no issues with the smoke, only with the mosquitoes and thunderstorms; her last day was 7/17. I checked other TRs, including other sites, and no one has mentioned smoke issues.

U.S. Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program reports:
Background levels of smoke along the front range of the Sierra Nevada will likely increase starting this evening and be slow to mix out on Saturday morning. By Sunday morning, smoke will lessen in the foothill communities but increase in the Owens Valley and northward along Highway 395.
The Lone Pine area has been in the Orange for a few days.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Crap!

My F-150 truck had some brake system warning lights I've been ignoring for a few weeks. Decided I'd best get those addressed, before heading hundreds of miles from home, to the end of Kaiser Pass Road and Bear Creek Diversion Dam, of all places! Well it turns out the antilock brake module must be replaced, to the tune of $3500+. I'd DYI the repair, except I do not have the tech tools, nor the time to learn/hack through the process. This expense is not in our budget, and I am SOL for this trip. I'll be canceling my 7/23 permit for 1 from Bear Creek Diversion Dam, tonight, if anyone wishes to capitalize on this advent. X%#&**!!!

Darn Ed, that sucks. That’s an expensive fix. I hope to see you at the next meetup.

Heading up tomorrow morning, will hike up a few miles on the first night and set up camp.

I got Covid last weekend and I’m still dealing with some sinus issues. If I’m not 100 percent on Wednesday then I won’t be going. I’ll chime in then.

I hope you recover in time to attend, Schmalz! If not, I wish you a full recovery. There are a few new variants circulating and the numbers are spiking in the west. By the time school starts up, I will be back to wearing a mask again.😒

I got covid for the first time last month and am still dealing with extreme exhaustion and lightheadedness. I'm hoping I can push through. I'm heading in tomorrow so we'll see :)

Smoke look worse than it is, once you drive a bit from the ranger station things start clearing up. Thunderheads are building. My last update. See ya soon!

Taking off tomorrow afternoon(Sunday). Picking up permit at Prather Ranger Station. Should be at Bear Diversion Dam by late afternoon. See you there. If anyone needs a ride, let me know. text me at 661.332.5630. I have 4wd for diversion road, though I doubt it is really needed. If you read this, I will see you there.
