7/5-9 Emigrant

Post by Wandering Daisy »

Day1- Relief Reservoir
0-1, breezy, HOT a few at dusk only

Day2- Middle Emigrant Lake via Brown Bear Pass
none until Emigrant Meadow Lake, which was 3-4, very wet meadow
Surprisingly once at Middle Emigrant only 1 a few at dusk, breezy and HOT

Day3- Summit Creek at Lewis Lake confluence
None all the way back. off trail route on slope above Middle Emigrant Lake with few mosquitoes
Summit Creek had none all day, a few at dusk, only in deep timber

Day4- day hike to Upper Lewis Lake 6AM to 10AM - none
hiked back to Relief Reservoir- only a few at dusk

Day5- walk out - none

People going out from Emigrant Lake said there were a lot there.

The heat was the main problem. 85 degrees in the shade all afternoon, in sun, miserable with rocks almost too hot to touch. Perhaps mosquitoes would be worse when (if) it cools down to normal temperatures.

Emerald and Pear Lakes 7/10-12

Post by wsp_scott »

1-2 all three days, most obvious in the evening, a little bit of bug stuff would take care of them but I saw some people wearing bug nets which seemed liked overkill to me :)

7/12 - 13 Cliff Lake - Island Lake

Post by BESON »

I hiked out of Cliff Lake trailhead and camped at Island Lake 7/12 and returned 7/13.
-4 in the meadows before/after the burned area. Even moving briskly wasn't sufficient to keep them from landing.
-2 at lakes during day with sun out and breeze, 3-4 at dawn/dusk.

2 during entire trip. Note that I had sprayed my clothes with Permethrin. Having finished a couple of days ago, I haven't noticed any bites.
