Ten years ago in 2014 (September) I did a marvelous loop from Lake Mary, across Cascade Valley (Fish Creek), over Gemini Pass, around to Cloverleaf Lake, Bloody Lake, Valentine Lake and back over the ridge above Heart Lake to Lake Mary to my car. Since then, camping AT Duck Lake has been all but forbidden (nothing allowed within 300 feet). So that camp is not in the loop anymore. No matter; there are better places to camp above Duck Lake (dry in late summer though).

That picture from Gemini Pass is stunning! Had to look up where it was, I rarely make it that far north, and if I do, I usually head all the way to Mammoth. Thanks for the photos!

Re: Amazingly beautiful and rugged loop across Mammoth Crest
Thanks. I arranged the landscape and geology all myself. Oh, right; that was something else did that. Anyway, it's the most interesting and amazing geology in all of the Sierra, perhaps in California. There was quite a nice survey done of this precise area including Convict Creek drainage and McGee Creek drainage:
- Full report: https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0385/report.pdf (I admit I have not read much of it - shame on me!)
- Beautiful mapping: http://personal.denison.edu/~greened/ge ... rrison.pdf
I did a lot of condensing and enhancing of the map and other info: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... drive_link
