Cherry Lake
I have always gone to Cherry Lake via Groveland. I was wondering what the route from Tuolumne is like. The FS web site recommends the Tuolumne route for trailers or hauling boats. It apparently is on a few different roads, not as narrow as the route up the switchbacks from the river (Groveland route). How much is paved? The Tuolumne Route would be 17 miles shorter for me. Would I save much time? Is the road paved or partially paved (nothing said about this when describing the route to Cherry Lake campground).

Re: Cherry Lake
From Sonora the route through Tuolumne is paved and about a half hour faster than going to Groveland.

Re: Cherry Lake
Thanks for that information! I just assumed it was a slow dirt road. I suppose it would be wise to check if the road is open.

Re: Cherry Lake
We used to have to go through Groveland to get the wilderness permit. Last time we went to that area, we returned on the Tuolomne route, and it’s a nice drive, but not so fast, and the road has some cracks and holes, so we had to take it easy.
