Cedar Grove will reopen to public access on June 10, 2024, marking the first time visitors can return since severe flooding during the winter of 2022-2023 that caused significant damage.
The reopening is planned to follow a phased timeline:
June 10:
- Day use and wilderness access
- Roads End Permit Station
- Visitor Center (open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 10 – Sept. 22)
June 15:
- Cedar Grove Pack Station
- Cedar Grove Market
June 21:
- Cedar Grove Lodge, Grill, Showers, and Laundry Services
The Sentinel Campground is projected to open no earlier than July 1, as crews address maintenance issues from the storms. Other campgrounds in Cedar Grove are not expected to open this year. Campground reservations will open once a firm opening date is set.
Wilderness permits are anticipated to be available today, June 7. As a reminder, a number of walkup permits are available for each trailhead. Wilderness and campground reservations will be available at recreation.gov.
For updates on services at the market, lodge, grill, showers, and laundry facilities, visit visitsequoia.com.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I did the "wait with finger poised about the mouse button" counting down the seconds before 7am this morning, June 10, and sure enough a bunch of Bubb's Creek permits were available, for about 10 seconds. I managed to click on the wrong link, went back to the permit page, and everything was gone. Extremely frustrating.
Are people generally able to get walk-up permits for Rae Lakes? I don't expect a guarantee, of course, but an indication from any of you good people that you've either had good luck with walking up, or not, would be appreciated.

I just checked Bubbs Creek availability this morning. There are still plenty left. Some days are sold out, but many days still have numbers (availability). I got two yesterday morning for late August. Maybe you are not using the online system correctly?oahudane wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 9:40 pm I did the "wait with finger poised about the mouse button" counting down the seconds before 7am this morning, June 10, and sure enough a bunch of Bubb's Creek permits were available, for about 10 seconds. Also, the permits weren't posted until about 7:15 AM, whereas it's usually 7 AM, on the money.

I was also poised at 7am but the permits were not available until about 7:15. The last few years it was 7am on the dot. I was able to get my permit for 9/2.
What really surprised me was that I was able to get a campground spot the night before (drive up day) at Hume Lake on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend a couple of weeks ago, in anticipation of being able to get the wilderness permit.

The Rangers have told me that it's rare to not have walkups available, except for a few weekends. Quite often, people don't even come to pick up their permit.oahudane wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 9:40 pm I did the "wait with finger poised about the mouse button" counting down the seconds before 7am this morning, June 10, and sure enough a bunch of Bubb's Creek permits were available, for about 10 seconds.
