Want More Backpacking Friends

Post by markyb »

Hi! I'm looking for more backpacking friends interested in going on trips together ranging anywhere from a weekend to a week long. Typically travelling on trail for about 8 miles a day (give-or-take a few miles). I'll venture off trail on an occasional scramble, but my interest is more about enjoying the scenery than a big physical challenge. Home base is in the Bay Area if we might carpool. Let me know if you might be interested in getting out on the trail!

HI Mark

You don't say where you are located, but you might find that the local recreation department or community college has a backpacking event or two.

Meanwhile, i get more tiem in te mountains and backpacking by joining volunteer trail crews. Great people, good work, and I think it's lot so fun.

Another way to have backpacking "friends" is to meet them on the trail. I go solo primarily because it is easier to plan than trying to coordinate several people and permits are easier to get. But I get plenty of human interaction simply by chatting with others on the trail. Those of us who solo are a bit spoiled- we get to go exactly where we want to go, at exactly the speed we like, and camp exactly where we want. I have met people on the trail that had similar hiking style as me, and we exchanged phone numbers, and later, did several trips together. If you are mainly interested on trails, you will automatically have opportunities.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
