Noticed on Sentinel hub that 3 fishing lakes one day up the West Walker River from the Leavitt Meadows campground have been snow free, open, Roosevelt, Lane, and Poore Lakes. Since the river is bridged, no stream fording issues. Fremont Lake was just beginning to melt off a week ago and the river regardless would be too full to cross.
Another good location for dispersed camping east side fishermen would be to take the 4wd dirt road from the paved Benton Crossing Road that reaches the north shore of Lake Crowley with its giant trout and then wander off towards the McGee Creek inlet shore areas. The creek itself is a spawning no fishing zone. Note be sure to check maps as much of that zone is Los Angeles Dept of Water & Power property with no overnight camping. Access to the west shores from US395 is blocked by swampy reedy expanses.

Re: West Walker River lakes open
Yes they are most certainly thawed. We've been following the thaw progress on the thread in the fishing forum at: https://www.highsierratopix.com/communi ... hp?t=22972
There was a bit of time delay in confirming that these lakes (as well as Walker and Parker) were thawed owing to the cloud cover for about a week's worth of Sentinel Hub images, but I recall we confirmed them thawed sometime around the end of May.
It has been interesting to see how slowly lakes are thawing up there. It's interesting that I'm monitoring westernmost (central part of coast) Newfoundland for my trip out there June 11-23 and I find that the "snow cap" on some of the areas my team will be exploring has been so slow to melt that it seems at times that the amount of snow cover has actually increased versus the week before. Fortunately for me, my subgroup's targets are at sea level where there isn't any snow. One thing is for sure, the state of the High Sierra thaw is that I won't be missing many opportunities between now and when I return.

Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Game on. Too bad I can't take advantage of it until June 23.
